Historic JordanianEuropean Summit in Amman on Thursday

Khaberni - Jordan and the European Union will hold, next Thursday, the first-ever bilateral summit that brings together His Majesty King Abdullah II with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a meeting described as very important in the course of relations between the two sides.

The summit will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and deepening political and economic partnership, based on the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Jordan" signed in January 2025, which opens broader prospects for cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.

The leaders will also discuss the main regional and international challenges during the summit, particularly the developments in the Middle East, in addition to issues of security, trade, and migration, in an international and regional environment characterized by increasing complexities.

President of the European Council Costa emphasized that Jordan is a strategic partner for the European Union and plays a pivotal role in the stability of the region, highlighting the European Union's appreciation for Jordan's role and leadership, especially in hosting Syrian refugees for over a decade.

The partnership covers five main pillars: "Political relations and regional cooperation, security and defense, economic resilience and trade and investment, human capital, as well as migration, protection and support for refugees."

This partnership is based on a financial and investment package for the period 2025–2027 estimated at about 3 billion euros.

The comprehensive and strategic partnership is built on a longstanding relationship between the two sides, based on the partnership agreement signed since 2002, and the priorities of the Jordanian-European partnership for the years 2021–2027. The last meeting of the Partnership Council between the European Union and Jordan was held on July 15, 2024.
