Khaberni - Most smartphone users have experienced this annoying situation: you rely on Google Maps to reach a new place, only to be surprised before you get halfway that the battery is down to just 11%.
It's like driving a car with the fuel gauge pointing to empty, starting a journey of worry and searching for a charger or power bank.
But the problem may not be with the battery itself, but with applications that operate in the background and drain power without the user noticing, according to a report published by "phonearena".
This was revealed by the telecommunications and networks company "Elevate", which analyzed smartphone usage habits to identify the most battery-consuming apps, whether during use or through background processing.
According to the study, these apps are not only some of the most popular, but they also perform intensive background operations that lead to significant battery drain each month, even when the phone is not in direct use.
Top 10 battery-draining apps
"Netflix"
Users spend about 60 hours per month watching content, which equates to a 1500% consumption of a full battery charge, in addition to 13 hours of background activity.
"TikTok"
Used for about 33 hours a month, consuming approximately 825% of the battery, plus 10 hours of background processing.
"YouTube"
Drains 540% of the battery charge monthly, with a decrease of 20% per hour of use, and 6 to 7 hours of background activity.
"Threads"
"Meta"'s new app consumes 460% of the battery monthly, with about 6.9 hours of background work.
"Snapchat"
It gobbles up 320% of the battery monthly, nearly half of that due to background processing, with an average use of 16 hours per month.
"CapCut"
A video editing app from "ByteDance" is the fastest battery drainer per hour (30%), reaching a total consumption of 300% monthly.
"Instagram"
Consumes 300% of the battery monthly, with 4.5 hours of background activity, and an average use of 15 hours.
"Facebook"
Drains 270% of the battery monthly, with about 6 hours of background work.
"Spotify"
Although its consumption per hour does not exceed 5%, 13.5 hours of background activity make it a "silent killer" of the battery.
"ChatGPT"
The artificial intelligence app consumes about 200% of the battery charge monthly, with an active usage rate of 20% per hour.
Why does this happen?
"Elevate" explained that users often focus on battery consumption during watching or browsing, while what happens in the background is ignored.
A company spokesperson stated that apps like "Spotify" might continue to consume a significant amount of power even when not in direct use, highlighting the importance of managing background refresh settings.
Tips for improving battery life
- Turn off background refresh for non-essential apps.
- Monitor usage time and reduce it.
- Activate energy saving mode.
- Update apps and operating system regularly.
- Reduce screen brightness or use automatic brightness.
- Delete high-consumption apps even if rarely used.
- Keep a power bank handy when needed.
With users increasingly relying on daily apps, tweaking settings or deleting some can be a simple yet effective step to extend battery life and avoid embarrassing situations.
