Khaberni - Fire safety experts revealed a list that includes 5 common household devices that should be disconnected from electricity before leaving the house, warning that leaving them plugged in could result in fires even when they are turned off.
Battery chargers: A constant danger
Reports from the National Fire Protection Association indicate that lithium-ion battery chargers, used in electric bikes, power tools, and laptops, should be disconnected immediately once charging is complete.
Overloading and leaving chargers connected to electricity continuously can lead to increased battery temperatures, thereby raising the risk of ignition, especially when charging devices overnight or while homeowners are away.
Also, small charging cables such as those for phones and laptops draw a continuous low current, which could stress the internal circuit and shorten the device's lifespan.
Electric heaters: A primary source of winter fires
Portable heating devices are classified among the leading causes of home fires during winter, with the association recording about 40,000 fire incidents a year because of them, as reported by "The Sun ".
Experts pointed out that devices which generate heat without an automatic shut-off feature pose a significant risk, especially when used in small rooms or near flammable materials.
Tabletop kitchen devices: Caution is necessary
Devices like electric toasters, water kettles, and tabletop ovens may suffer from high voltage or wire malfunctions, which could lead to sparks or fire.
Accumulation of crumbs and oils inside these devices increases the likelihood of ignition, hence experts recommend disconnecting them after each use and not leaving them connected to electricity.
Home entertainment systems: Continuous energy consumption
Gaming devices, televisions, and sound systems remain in standby mode, consuming 5-10% of a home's total energy usage.
Voice control technologies and wireless control devices keep these systems active even when not in use, and experts emphasize the use of voltage fluctuation protection strips and disconnecting devices completely when traveling.
Hair styling tools: Heat and wear are permanent dangers
Devices such as hair dryers and curling irons need immediate disconnection after each use, as the heat generated with any damage to the wires could turn into a direct hazard.
It is also advisable to use outlets with shock protection, especially in bathrooms where humidity is high.
