Khaberni - In statements that seem prophetic of his destiny today, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro described Western democracy as "in final decline" and that the citizen has lost his authority in the face of billionaire dominance.
Maduro said in statements published on January 2, less than 24 hours before the U.S. military operation targeting him: "Western liberal democracy is in final decline, it no longer represents the people".
He added: "Democracies without people are manipulated, serving the interests of billionaires and corporations, and are subject to manipulation through social media, and the citizen has no authority when it comes to core issues."
Trump had announced on Saturday that the United States had launched a wide-ranging strike on Venezuela, and that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores had been arrested and removed from the country.
A number of U.S. Congress members described the operation as "illegal," while the U.S. administration said Maduro "will face trial." The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry also announced its intention to resort to international organizations and requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its "solidarity with the people of Venezuela," and its "great concern" about reports of the forced deportation of Maduro and his wife, calling for their "release" and "prevention of further escalation" in the situation.
