AlAbbadi Copper May Be Jordans Next Oil

Khaberni - Member and rapporteur of the Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Wealth Committee, MP Naseem Al-Abbadi, considers Jordanian copper to be "our next oil," which will save us from increasing the deficit in the public budget.

Al-Abbadi said during television statements on Saturday about the draft law on the copper exploration agreement in the Abu Khashiba area, that copper is a natural resource that, if properly managed in agreements and exploited in the right technical and professional manner, would be beneficial for Jordan, according to Al-Mamlaka.

She explained that the committee is studying the clauses of the agreement one by one, and that signing it is not a matter of urgency, hence the committee conducts in-depth research and extensive dialogues with professional unions, experts, and panels.

About the company contracted with the government to carry out the exploration project, she noted that it was established two years ago for signing and exploration purposes, and although it is a nascent company, it will develop and transform into a public shareholding company before starting the operations.
