Khaberni - The German police in Berlin announced today, Saturday, that a fire broke out at a site containing electrical cables, causing a power outage for about 50,000 homes in the Lichterfelde district.
The police also clarified that the fire might have been deliberate, and the investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact cause.
The authorities confirmed in a statement published on the platform "X" that the fire department had been notified of the incident at 05:45 GMT, and they managed to control the flames that also affected about 2,000 commercial facilities, with the possibility of additional outages.
The statement added that criminal investigators were present at the scene to examine the cables and determine the cause of the fire, indicating that police forces and emergency services were dealing with the situation and responding to citizens' inquiries, amid a severe cold wave currently hitting the German capital.
