International Reactions Following the American Strike on Venezuela

ofvkd - International reactions continued, Saturday, after the execution of a comprehensive strike by the United States against Venezuela and its president, Nicolas Maduro, who was arrested along with his wife and transferred by air out of the country.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino confirmed that his country would resist the presence of foreign forces.


Colombia

Colombian President Gustavo Petro condemned the "missile" attack on the Venezuelan capital on Saturday, after loud explosions were heard there.

President Petro, who is close to Maduro, wrote on X, "They attacked Venezuela," calling for an immediate meeting of the Organization of American States and the United Nations to consider the "legitimacy" of this "aggression."

Germany

The German Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that it is following the situation in Venezuela with great concern, and that a crisis team would meet later for further discussions.

The statement mentioned that the German Foreign Ministry is in close contact with the embassy in Caracas.

Spain

The Spanish Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday that Madrid is calling for calm and respect for international law in Venezuela.

Spain offered to mediate to help find a peaceful solution in Venezuela.

Russia

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that it is extremely concerned and condemns the "armed aggressive action" by the United States against Venezuela.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Venezuela’s right to determine its own destiny without any destructive military interference from abroad must be ensured.

It added, "It is important now to prevent further escalation and focus on finding a way out of this situation through dialogue."

Italy

The Italian Foreign Minister said on Saturday that his country is monitoring the situation in Venezuela with particular attention to the Italian community, and that Prime Minister Meloni is continuously informed.

Iran

The Iranian Foreign Ministry denounced the "US military attack" on Venezuela, following the explosions that shook the capital Caracas on Saturday.

A statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it "strongly condemns the US military attack on Venezuela and the blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," deploring the "illegitimate aggression by the United States."

Belgium

The Belgian Foreign Minister stated on Saturday that his country is closely following the situation in Venezuela in coordination with European partners.


European Union

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kalas, said the European Union is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

She added, "The European Union has repeatedly stated that Mr. Maduro lacks legitimacy, defended a peaceful transition of power. In all circumstances, international law principles and the United Nations Charter must be respected. We call for restraint."

She emphasized that the safety of EU citizens in the country is of utmost priority.
