Total government public debt rises to 47 billion dinars

Khaberni - The total value of the public debt on the government has risen to exceed 47 billion dinars, according to statistics from October of last year, while the debt percentage decreased to 108.4%, compared with 119% at the end of August 2025, according to the latest data published on the Ministry of Finance website.

In details, the net balance of government debt, after excluding the amounts held by the Social Security Investment Fund, reaches 77.9% of the Gross Domestic Product, up from 77.5% during the same period of 2024.

The net balance of government debt is defined as the net amounts owed by the government, after deducting its assets such as gold and foreign currency, which can be used to repay part of these debts.

According to the distribution structure of the debt, with an exception for the balance held by the Social Security Investment Fund, the majority of loans and debts are from external sources, with a value exceeding 20 billion dinars. Meanwhile, the value of domestic debts reached approximately 15.940 billion dinars by the end of October last year.

The portion of the debt held by the Social Security Investment Fund, which accounts for a part of the total public debt, amounts to 11.084 billion dinars, constituting about 25.5% of the Gross Domestic Product, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

The value of public debt service in the first 10 months of last year amounted to about 4.328 billion dinars, distributed as 2.393 billion dinars in installments, while the remaining amount of 1.935 billion dinars went towards paying interest during this period.
