Khaberni - Sponsored by His Excellency the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Professor Dr. Amro Ezzat Salameh, Amman Arab University participated in the scientific event organized by the Association under the title: “Transforming the Future”, which hosted Professor Omar Hatamleh, the international expert in the field of artificial intelligence and the Chief of Artificial Intelligence at the U.S. Space Agency (NASA) - Goddard Center, with participation from a group of academics and experts from Jordan as well as more than (150) academics from Arab universities participating remotely, and representatives from (14) Arab countries.
Representing Amman Arab University in this event were several faculty members from the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the College of Information Technology, including: Dr. Thamer Alsarayreh, Head of the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Hossam Almahasneh, Dr. Mais Al-Haj Qasim, Dr. Ahmad Al-Ajarmeh, and Dr. Layal Al-Zoubi.
Professor Hatamleh discussed the profound and accelerating impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors, affirming that it represents one of the most transformative technologies in human history due to its pivotal role in reshaping education, the economy, medicine, and the job market. He also referred to the ethical dimensions accompanying the development of these technologies, the importance of employing artificial intelligence as a tool to support critical thinking and decision making, and not as a replacement for it. He discussed the future of jobs in the era of artificial intelligence, the expected economic and social challenges, the role of artificial intelligence and precision medicine in improving life quality and increasing the average human lifespan, emphasizing the necessity of international cooperation to establish ethical and legislative frameworks to ensure responsible use of these technologies. In conclusion, Professor Dr. Anas Rateb Alsaud, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Universities, managed an interactive dialogue session that provided the participants an opportunity to interact directly with the expert, and discussed ways to practically benefit from applications of artificial intelligence in Arab higher education institutions.
On his part, Dr. Rami Sahweil, Dean of the College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, emphasized the college's ongoing engagement with specialized scientific events, keeping up with the latest global developments in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, which contributes to the development of academic programs and enhancing educational outcomes linked to the labor market requirements.
