Khaberni - Amid fears of a sudden Iranian attack, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and the heads of staff and intelligence held an emergency meeting at an operational unit belonging to intelligence.
Katz met with the Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir and the head of military intelligence Shlomi Binder, and they inspected one of the operational units of the intelligence directorate.
The discussions mainly focused on the Iranian threat, especially in light of Israeli allegations claiming that Tehran is accelerating the rebuilding of its ballistic missile arsenal after the recent Israeli strike on Iran.
Israeli intelligence reports claim that Iran is currently testing new launch platforms and missiles, in an attempt to test its combat readiness.
According to Israeli security sources, the defense establishment does not rule out that Tehran may resort to launching an attack using ballistic missiles or drones, not with the aim of achieving a military victory, but to divert attention from its increasing internal crises, including popular protests demanding economic reforms, which the Iranian authorities themselves have started to acknowledge the need to implement.
The sources expressed additional concern regarding the Iranian-Turkish rapprochement, particularly concerning the Syrian scene and the regional role, especially after Ankara shifted to a more hardline stance towards Israel, despite previous relations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the US administration.
In this context, the head of Mossad, David Barnea, warned that the Iranian nuclear project, despite the damages it has sustained, is not yet buried, emphasizing that "the nuclear threat still exists, and we must ensure that it never sees the light of day."
The Israeli leadership confirms that it is preparing for all scenarios, at a time when Tehran considers escalation with Israel as a potential means to relieve internal pressures and unify the domestic front around "the external enemy."
