Khaberni - The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, Musa Al-Maaytah, said that financial auditing for parties has been followed for years, where all parties must submit their budgets at the beginning of each year for review and verification of their compliance with the law.
Al-Maaytah added in a statement on Friday that most parties comply with submitting their budgets properly, and procedures are implemented according to the financial system and the law. He mentioned that some parties that did not correct their situations were dealt with legally, and were referred to court for non-compliance with the law, according to the kingdom.
Al-Maaytah clarified that the financial audit conducted by the State Audit Bureau on political parties was based on an official request from the Commission, according to Article 29 of the Political Parties Law, which grants the Board of Commissioners, or its delegate, the right to do so. The State Audit Bureau was authorized to conduct this audit.
He indicated that the Commission dealt with the observations in the State Audit Bureau's report according to the provisions of the Political Parties Law and the related regulations and instructions. Appropriate legal measures were taken based on the nature of each case. Should it be found that parties receiving government funding had violated, funding was suspended until their situations were rectified.
Al-Maaytah confirmed that the Board of Commissioners filed a lawsuit to dissolve two parties for failing to submit their annual financial budget, and the cases are still under consideration by the judiciary after the expiration of the legal procedures and deadlines.
Al-Maaytah emphasized that the vast majority of parties were compliant with the legislative provisions regulating their operations, while there were a few parties that did not comply, but those parties later corrected their situations before the issuance of the State Audit Bureau's report.
