Public Works The cost of maintaining the lighting on the 100 road amounts to 1250 million dinars

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Omar Al-Maharmeh, stated on Friday that more than 80% of lighting failures on the roads managed by the ministry result from attacks on lighting networks and theft of panels, copper cables, and electrical transformers.

"Al-Maharmeh pointed out that the Amman Development Road has been subjected to multiple attacks, noting that the cost to maintain the lighting on this road is estimated at approximately 1.250 million dinars to relight it," according to Al-Mamlaka.

Al-Maharmeh confirmed that these attacks drain hundreds of thousands of dinars annually, in addition to consuming time and effort.

The Ministry of Public Works, in cooperation with the relevant security agencies, announced the arrest of a group of individuals involved in stealing and attacking electrical transformers designated for road lighting in the areas of (Hasa–Tafilah) and the Desert Road at the (Suwaqah) region.

The ministry explained that these attacks caused significant damage to the lighting system and led to the malfunctioning of several units, resulting in material losses to the infrastructure and public funds, as well as posing a significant risk to the traffic safety of those using these vital roads.

The ministry confirmed that the involved individuals have been referred to the competent judicial authorities to take legal action against them according to the provisions of Article (26) of the Roads Law No. (24) of 1986 and its amendments, which impose penalties of imprisonment or fines on anyone who attacks road facilities or equipment or lighting by vandalism or theft, with an obligation to remove the damage and guarantee the value of the damages.
