Jordan Rainfall Reached 90 of the Annual Average

Khaberni - Rainfall in the kingdom reached about 90% of the general annual average rate until Friday, compared to 40% only last year, in a positive indicator that promises a better water season and a noticeable improvement in the storages of dams and groundwater.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Water Omar Salama said that these precipitations will positively reflect on the water situation, explaining that any rainfall contributes to the replenishing of groundwater by about 35%, especially in light of the decline it experienced over the past two years due to climate changes and increased excessive pumping.

He added that the ministry is working diligently to maximize the benefits from rain and floodwaters, by utilizing flood waters in Shuaib Dam and storing them in King Abdullah Canal, along with removing part of the sediments in Mujib Dam, while in the northern areas, benefiting from flood waters to store them in Wadi Al-Arab Dam.

He confirmed that these measures are part of the ministry's plan to enhance the efficiency of water resource management and improve storage levels, contributing to supporting national water security.
