Khaberni - The Ministry of Local Administration warned of increased risk levels due to the continuous effect of a high-efficiency cold air front with slow movement, affecting several areas of the kingdom. The areas will experience heavy rainfall and the formation of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
The Ministry clarified that the risk level is high after midnight on Thursday into Friday, as the cold front will extend from midnight to the central regions, including the capital Amman, Balqa Governorate, and parts of Zarqa and Madaba Governorates.
It will later extend to Karak and Tafilah Governorates, with heavy rains occurring periodically.
The Ministry warned of flash floods forming in various municipalities of Karak and Tafilah Governorates, and some municipalities in the central part of the kingdom including the municipalities of the capital Amman, Balqa, Madaba, and Zarqa, as well as the southern and central Jordan Valley, in addition to some municipalities in the northern part of Balqa Governorate, also continuing the rainy condition in several municipalities of Ajloun, Jerash, and some municipalities from Irbid Governorate.
The Ministry indicated that risk levels rise in the municipalities of Karak Governorate and some municipalities of Tafilah Governorate as a result of soil saturation with water after heavy rainfall over the past days, which may lead to significant valley runoff, the formation of sweeping floods, and water accumulations on roads, in addition to the possibility of soil and rock slides, including areas in the northern and central Jordan Valley.
The Ministry noted that the peak of the expected weather condition in Karak Governorate occurs between midnight and the early morning hours, with the condition's impact later extending to Tafilah Governorate and parts of western Ma'an Governorate.
It also stated that the low-pressure system begins to move away from the kingdom on Friday during the day, with the weather remaining very cold and a chance for scattered light rain showers of low risk.
The Ministry of Local Administration called on municipalities, joint service councils, and municipal affairs directors to raise the level of preparedness, enhance field efforts, monitor emergency rooms around the clock, and take necessary measures to maintain public safety, while also urging citizens to be cautious and avoid valley courses and areas of water accumulation.
