Khaberni - The Parliamentary Services and Transport Committee, chaired by Ayman Al-Badawneh and including members of parliament Jihad Madanat and Mohammad Al-Mahamid, visited the Ministry of Transport, where they met with the Minister of Transport Nidal Al-Qatamin and several ministry officials.
During the visit, the committee discussed the state of the transport sector in the kingdom, and the plans and projects implemented by the ministry to develop the public transportation system, enhance infrastructure, and improve services offered to the citizens.
Additionally, the committee, along with the Minister of Transport and the General Manager of the Hejaz Railway Corporation Zahi Khalil and board members, took a train tour on the Hejaz Railway within Amman, to observe the nature of the institution's work, its historical role, and the main projects and programs it implements to preserve this national heritage.
The tour included a visit to the institution's facilities, including the new museum scheduled to open in mid-next year, which will house artifacts, documents, and historical equipment related to the railway, thereby being a significant addition to enhance its status as a destination for cultural and historical tourism.
The committee also inspected the buildings and facilities being restored, reviewed the operational capabilities of the railway, and opportunities for its development in accordance with the requirements of modern transport, contributing to support tourism, development, and logistics projects.
An administrative board meeting was held inside one of the historical train carriages, with the participation of the chairman and members of the committee, where ways to develop and manage the railway were discussed based on well-studied principles that preserve its historical value and maximize its benefits for tourism and development.
Minister of Transport Al-Qatamin emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with the Parliament to support the efforts of the institution and revive its role as a vital national facility contributing to cultural tourism and serving economic development.
For his part, the chairman of the committee, Ayman Al-Badawneh, emphasized the committee's support for the efforts of the Ministry of Transport in developing the sector, with a focus on preserving the Hejaz Railway as a historic and national landmark and a promising investment and tourism opportunity.
