Public Works Completes Maintenance on a Vital Section of the Desert Highway

Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced on Thursday that it has completed the maintenance and improvement project on the Desert Highway in the area extending from "Al-Humaima" to "Al-Quweira," with a total length of 25 kilometers for both directions, and did so in record time, about two months ahead of the scheduled completion date.

The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al-Samen, stated that the ministry's staff and executing agencies managed to complete all required works with high efficiency, noting that the project, which was expected to last 180 days, was completed 60 days before the contractual deadline, reflecting the ministry's seriousness in accelerating the pace of work on vital roads to reduce closure periods and ensure the safety of road users.

Abu Al-Samen pointed out that the project, which cost approximately 3 million Jordanian dinars, included scraping the old damaged asphalt layers and relaying new asphalt mixes according to international specifications, as well as enhancing traffic safety elements through ground painting in white and yellow, installing ground reflectors to improve night visibility, and replacing typical engineering speed bumps with modern ones.

The minister confirmed that this part of the Desert Highway serves as a strategic artery linking the Aqaba port to the capital Amman and other provinces, directly serving commercial freight movement and tourism activities, emphasizing that maintaining this road and improving its safety level are top priorities for the ministry in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reduce accidents.

The ministry appreciated the cooperation of citizens and truck drivers during the implementation period, their adherence to the traffic diversions that were put in place to ensure smooth traffic flow, affirming that this achievement is part of a series of comprehensive projects aimed at maintaining and developing the national road network across the kingdom.
