Khaberni - Residents of the Suwaylih area, in coordination with the relevant authorities, have commenced the rehabilitation procedures of the Chechnya Mosque minaret, which is considered a prominent Islamic symbol and one of the most important historical landmarks in the area.
The minaret is scheduled to be taken down within two weeks, due to its weight of about 25 tons, in preparation for setting a new and safe structural base that fits its location along the main street, and to ensure its safety and sustainability.
This update is the fourth in the mosque's history, which spans over 120 years. It originally began in 1905 as a simple room made of mud and stone, before another room was added a few years later. In 1936, it was rebuilt to its current form, while this new modification is set to begin in early 2026 to preserve its religious, historical, and architectural value.
