Khaberni - Elon Musk said in a post on the X platform that his company, Neuralink, for implanting brain chips, will begin "mass production" of brain-computer interface devices and will move to fully automated surgical procedures in 2026.
Neuralink has not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment. The brain chips are designed to help people suffering from conditions like spinal cord injuries. The first patient to implant the chip used it to play video games, browse the internet, post on social media, and move the cursor on a laptop.
The company began human trials of its implanted brain device in 2024 after addressing safety concerns raised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which had rejected the company's request in 2022.
Neuralink said in September that 12 people worldwide suffering from severe paralysis had brain chips implanted and used them to control digital and physical tools through brain signals. It secured $650 million in a funding round in June.
