The Royal Will Approves Amendments to the Sharia Enforcement Law Allowing Electronic Monitoring Instead of Imprisonment

Khaberni - The Royal Highness's will has been issued, approving the amended law for the Sharia enforcement for the year 2025.

According to the amendment released in the official gazette, issue number 6026, Article (13) of the original law was amended by adding paragraph (w), which allows the enforcement chief, upon the judgment creditor’s request for imprisonment of the judgment debtor or after an imprisonment decision is issued, to subject the judgment debtor to electronic monitoring upon his request, if deemed beneficial.

The amendment stipulates that the duration of subjecting the sentenced person to electronic monitoring shall not exceed the number of days of imprisonment prescribed for each debt, without affecting the number of days of imprisonment stipulated by law, with the possibility of subjecting him to electronic monitoring an additional time for each debt annually, if reasons that convince the enforcement chief are provided.

Furthermore, the law states that the terms and conditions for electronic monitoring shall be determined in accordance with a system to be issued for this purpose, and in case the sentenced person fails to comply with the enforcement while under electronic monitoring without an acceptable justification, the enforcement against him shall continue.
