Putin I Trust in Achieving Victory in Ukraine

Khaberni - Russian President Vladimir Putin used his annual New Year's address to rally his forces that are fighting in Ukraine, saying that he trusts them and in the victory in the war, which he described as part of an existential conflict with the West.

US President Donald Trump is trying to mediate to end the conflict that has been ongoing for nearly four years, and which is the bloodiest in Europe since World War II, with the negotiating positions of the parties still far apart.

Putin particularly praised the Russian forces fighting in Ukraine, calling them heroes.

Putin, who was wearing a black coat, addressing the soldiers said: “I assure you that millions across Russia stand with you on this New Year's Eve.” He added: “They are thinking of you, sympathizing with you, and hoping the best for you. I wish all our soldiers and leaders a happy upcoming New Year! We believe in you and our victory!”

His speech, which was first broadcast in the far east of Russia, coincided with Russia releasing video clips claiming to show the shooting down of a drone, and presented it as evidence that Ukraine attempted to attack a presidential headquarters this week. Kyiv rejected Russia's accusations and described them as lies aimed at obstructing peace talks.

In another video released on Wednesday, the senior Russian general asked the Russian forces to continue establishing buffer zones in the Ukrainian regions of Sumy and Kharkiv, stating that Moscow's forces advanced in December 2025 faster than any other month of that year.

Reuters was unable to verify his statements regarding the situation on the battlefield.
