A recent study A cup of tea daily enhances bone density in women

Khaberni - A scientific study conducted in Australia has found that drinking tea helps strengthen women's bones, compared to women who prefer drinking coffee. This study, published by the scientific journal Nutrients, involved a research team from Flinders University in Australia monitoring the health condition of about 10 thousand women over ten years, measuring changes in the mineral density of the participants' bones for those who drink tea or coffee.

Bone mineral density is one of the key biomarkers for assessing the likelihood of developing osteoporosis, and studies indicate that one out of every three women over the age of fifty suffers from osteoporosis, a disease that leads to millions of fractures each year.

Since millions of people make drinking tea and coffee a part of their daily routine, researchers see a need to understand the impact of consuming such beverages on bones.

Researchers found that tea contains a compound called catechin, which helps slow down the rates of bone weakness and contributes to their formation. In contrast, laboratory tests have shown that coffee interferes with calcium absorption in the body and bone metabolism.

Dr. Eino Liu from the College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University in Australia says, "Any improvement in bone density can translate into fewer bone fractures," adding in statements reported by the website "Health Day," specialized in medical research, that these results do not mean that women should completely stop drinking coffee or start drinking large amounts of tea.

He mentioned that alternating a single cup of tea daily for older women may be more than just a comfortable daily habit, but could be a step towards acquiring strong bones.
