Khaberni - Croatian Luka Modric, the star midfielder of Milan and former Real Madrid player, disclosed that Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho, made Cristiano Ronaldo cry during his coaching period of the team "the royal" due to not pursuing an opposing full-back and not defending along with the rest of the team.
Modric during an interview with Corriere della Sera said that Mourinho was one of the strictest coaches and one time, "I saw him make Cristiano Ronaldo cry in the dressing room - while he was trying his hardest on the pitch - because on one occasion he did not chase an opposing full-back. Mourinho is very direct with players but he is honest."
The Croatian midfielder added: "He treated Sergio Ramos and another newly joined player the same way, if there’s something he needs to tell you, he will tell you. Maximilian Allegri does the same, he tells you directly what is good and what is bad. Honesty is essential."
Modric clarified that Mourinho for him was "exceptional both as a coach and as a person."
The Rossoneri player continued: "He was the one who wanted me at Real Madrid. Without Mourinho, I wouldn’t have joined the team. I regret that I only worked under him for one season."
He added: "It’s difficult to find words to talk about him, because first of all for his personality, not just his quality as a coach. We talked a lot about Milan when we were in Madrid, that club was also unique to him. I recall when I met him, he was in the city alone and called me and said come let's have dinner together. We talked about everything for hours, about football, family, and life. Usually, coaches don't trust players but he is the opposite."
Modric referred to his coach in his youth named Tomo Basich saying he was the most important in his life and the reason for achieving the goals he achieved.
