Confronting the black market Moroccan security arrests 118 speculators at the African Cup

Khaberni  - Moroccan authorities announced the arrest of 118 individuals on charges related to betting and illicit trade of tickets for the 2025 African Nations Cup football matches currently held in Morocco.

The suspects were subjected to judicial investigations supervised by the competent public prosecutor's offices, and it was decided to imprison some of them and release others, depending on the nature of the acts attributed to each one.

According to the General Directorate of Moroccan Security, the police's computer vigilance system detected dozens of posts on social media offering to sell match tickets at prices exceeding their actual value and through illegal methods, leading to technical investigations and field interventions that helped identify the suspects and arrest them in various cities hosting the tournament games.

According to the source, the accusations against the suspects range from selling entry tickets to stadiums by illegal means, forgery, attacking electronic data processing systems, in addition to scamming and defrauding those wanting to purchase tickets from the black market, as well as creating and spreading fake news related to the African Nations Cup competitions.

The source confirmed that the competent public prosecutors ordered judicial investigations into all the detainees, with some being presented in custody while others were followed up while on bail, depending on the degree of their involvement and the magnitude of the acts committed.

In a related context, security operations continue with full coordination between various security services and local authorities to combat all forms of betting on match tickets, whether through computer monitoring or through field campaigns aimed at identifying and arresting the involved parties.
