Record Number 28000 New Settlement Units in the West Bank in 2025

Khaberni  - The Israeli occupation authorities approved during the year 2025 the construction of more than 28 thousand new settlement units in the occupied West Bank, and will discuss on Wednesday plans to establish more than a thousand additional units, according to a report issued by the left-wing Israeli movement Peace Now, which specializes in monitoring settlements.

Peace Now stated that "since the beginning of 2025, the Israeli Civil Administration's Higher Planning Council approved 28,163 residential units, an unprecedented record number of units for a single year, and today the Council is discussing plans to build 1,033 residential units in various areas across the West Bank."

The plans include building 126 units in the Sanur settlement that was evacuated but was approved for reestablishment by the Security Cabinet (Kabinett) in May/2025, according to the movement.

The movement noted that the Sanur settlement had been evacuated as part of the 2005 disengagement plan, which involved the Israeli army's withdrawal and dismantling of settlements in the Gaza Strip.

The reestablishment of the settlement was made possible thanks to amendments introduced by the current government to the disengagement law, lifting the ban imposed on the Israeli presence in parts of northern West Bank, according to the movement.

It was said that this step represents a return to settler activity deep in the northern West Bank, in areas with a high Palestinian population density, where there had been no previous settler presence.

The plans also, according to the movement, involve building 398 settlement units in the Yitzhar settlement near Nablus (north) and 509 units in the Asfar settlement (south).

Approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers live in hundreds of settlements in the occupied West Bank, including 250,000 in occupied Jerusalem, and they commit daily assaults against Palestinian civilians with the aim of forcefully displacing them.

Since the start of the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip more than two years ago, Israel has been paving the way to reinforce the occupation of the West Bank and to annex it officially through escalating crimes, including assaults on Palestinians and their displacement from their homes and the expropriation of their lands and the expansion of settlements.

For decades, the Palestinian Authority has been calling on the international community to pressure Israel to end the settlements on the occupied territories, which are considered illegal by the United Nations and undermine the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.
