Iraq announces withdrawal of international coalition from Ain alAssad base next week

Khaberni - The Joint Operations Command in Iraq announced that the international coalition forces will withdraw from Ain al-Assad base in Anbar province next week, as a new step towards ending their military presence in Iraq.

The Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Mohammadawi, stated that the international coalition will leave the base in the coming days, as part of successive stages to reorganize the foreign presence in Iraq.

Al-Mohammadawi noted that the rate of infiltration across the Iraqi borders has "reached zero percent," in reference to tightening security measures and fortifications at the borders, especially with Syria, which reduces the movement of ISIS elements and smuggling operations.

Al-Mohammadawi confirmed that the year 2026 will witness the completion of the transfer of the security file in the rest of the provinces to the Ministry of Interior, as part of a plan to end the "militarization of cities" and to assign the primary role of maintaining security to local police forces instead of the military.

This step comes after gradual progress in recent years in handing over a number of provinces to the authorities of the Ministry of Interior, while maintaining a limited deployment of the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces in open and security-sensitive areas.
