Khaberni - Egyptian Ministry of Interior devices in Dakahlia Governorate apprehended a content creator involved in cases of extortion and defamation of several families through social media platforms after monitoring a post supported by a picture that sparked widespread controversy among users of these platforms.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, residing in the jurisdiction of Mit Ghamr Police Center, exploited his digital popularity to deceive citizens into believing he could obtain mobile phone data, in exchange for money, before reneging on his promises and seizing the funds.
The investigations also uncovered that the content creator managed a digital channel used in defaming the targeted families, exploiting the fast spread of information on social networks to achieve his illegitimate goals.
Following the regularization of procedures, he was arrested with a mobile phone in his possession, containing digital evidence proving his involvement in the crimes mentioned, including fraud, extortion, and systematic defamation.
The case was referred to the public prosecution, which took over the investigation, as part of the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior to enhance digital security, combat cybercrimes targeting citizens, and ensure community stability and protection of individuals from exploitation in cyberspace.
Egyptian activist Ahmed El-Jarhi had filed an official complaint with the Egyptian Ministry of Interior through his social media accounts, sharing documented footage of the content creator's extortion of several locals and girls, urging security to act quickly to take the necessary legal measures, which indeed occurred.
