Khaberni - The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority announced a ban on all forms of fishing, commercial and recreational, beginning on the morning of Thursday, January 1, 2026, until the evening of Thursday, April 30, 2026.
This decision marks the fourth consecutive year as part of the Authority's efforts to preserve the fish stocks of native species in the Aqaba Bay and protect them during their breeding and egg-laying period, based on the positive outcomes of previous fishing halt seasons.
The decision was made in agreement with associations and relevant parties in the fishing sector, reaffirming the partnership with the local community and achieving a balance between protecting the marine environment and sustaining the sector.
According to the regulations for fishing and aquatic life in Aqaba Bay No. (Z/1) of 2020, fishing of all native species, both from coastal and deep waters, is prohibited during the stated period at all fishing sites, with the exception of migratory species such as different types of tuna and needlefish for licensed boats and fishermen only.
Additionally, fishing by tourist boats, glass-bottom boats, amateurs, and visitors on the beaches is prohibited, as well as carrying metal traps and gill nets, while carrying nets designated for collecting bait, lines, and hooks is allowed.
The Authority also clarified that licensed fishermen who do not fish will be compensated with an amount of 400 Jordanian Dinars monthly throughout the halt period, emphasizing the need to enforce strict surveillance to ensure compliance with the instructions and the protection of the marine environment in Aqaba Bay.
