American Triathlete Victim of a Shark Attack at Sea

Khaberni - The body of triathlete Erica Fox (55 years old) was found on the coast of California, after she had been missing for several days while swimming at sea.

The last time Fox was seen was on December 21st in Monterey Bay, where she was swimming with her husband Jean-Francis Vanrooisel and 13 other members of a local swimming club known as "Kelp Crawlers".
Two witnesses reported that they saw a shark at a close distance at the same time the athlete disappeared. According to their testimony, the shark appeared on the surface of the water carrying what seemed to be a body between its teeth, and this was very close to the group of swimmers.
Following her disappearance, a search and rescue operation involving boats, drones, divers, and an aircraft was launched, but it was suspended on December 22nd after more than 15 hours without any results.
Days later, a body wearing a black diving suit was found in the Davenport area in Santa Cruz County, about 30 miles from the last known location of Fox. Fox's father confirmed that the body was hers, and she was still wearing the shark deterrent fin attached to her ankle.
Erica Fox was highly experienced in endurance sports, having participated in two extreme half Ironman races, as well as several standard distance triathlon races throughout her sports career.
