Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, Omar Al-Maharameh, said on Tuesday that the Wadi Araba road in the Ghor Al-Numeira area is closed, and a team from the Ministry is on-site to assess the situation and determine quick solutions to reopen it, which may take several weeks.
Al-Maharameh added that the Wadi Araba road is the only one that was closed due to a landslide that swept away a part of the road’s body over an area more than 200 meters wide, causing it to deviate from its natural course, completely closing the road and redirecting traffic towards Al-Mamoura area in Tafilah Governorate, reaching the desert highway.
Al-Maharameh clarified that all other main roads under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Works did not experience any closures, confirming that the ministry dealt with all notes and complaints immediately upon their receipt, in cooperation with the municipalities in areas where water levels increased.
Al-Maharameh pointed out that the specialized teams dealt with 154 reports in the past 48 hours, most of which were about minor mudslides and slight increases in rainwater levels at various locations, and they were handled on-site without recording any major obstacles to traffic flow.
The operation rooms and field teams of the Ministry continue their diligent efforts in various regions of the kingdom to handle the effects of the weather condition, where work has been ongoing around the clock since last Friday evening.
Al-Maharameh confirmed the presence of field teams in the field since last Friday evening, continuously working to address the incoming observations and ensure the sustainability of traffic movement on main and rural roads.
The ministry urged citizens to take utmost caution and safety measures, to stay away from watercourses and streams, and to fully comply with public safety conditions to protect their lives.
The Ministry also invited everyone not to hesitate to communicate with the main operation room through the unified number (106) from any mobile or landline phone, or through the number (06/5850111), or via WhatsApp on the number (0780377223), in addition to directly reporting to emergency rooms in the governorates at the numbers assigned to each governorate: the capital (0780377291), Irbid (0780377276), Balqa (0780377413), and Karak (0780377242).
