Mafraq Agriculture Recent Rains Boost Hopes for a Good Season

Khaberni - Dr. Inaam Al-Mashaqbah, Mafraq Agriculture Director, said that the recent low-pressure systems have significantly contributed to an increase in the rainfall rate in Mafraq Governorate, indicating that the current average has reached "one-third" of the annual rainfall rate for the governorate, which is 200 millimeters.

Al-Mashaqbah added in her statements today, Monday, that the rains that the governorate experienced since the end of last week have greatly contributed to reinforcing farmers' hopes of obtaining a good agricultural season, in addition to enhancing the livestock sector through the rains' contribution to enriching the vegetation cover, which positively reflects on providing natural pastures for livestock, thereby reducing fodder costs.
She pointed out that there are 100,000 dunams of rain-fed agricultural lands in the western region of Mafraq city, explaining that the higher the rainfall rate, the more positively it reflects on reducing irrigation costs for those crops.
She confirmed that the rains will significantly contribute to filling dams and reservoirs, thus enhancing the availability of watering places for livestock, noting that there are more than 60 reservoirs, all of which rely on rainfall and floods, especially since the storage capacity of most of them has reached one quarter to half of their storage capacity.
