The Government A Short and Highly Effective Depression and Precautionary Evacuation

Khaberni - The Local Administration Ministry said that the Central Emergency Room in the ministry operates round the clock handling all complaints and observations received, in coordination with the emergency rooms in the municipalities and the joint services councils across all provinces, in cooperation with administrative governors, civil defense, the Ministry of Public Works, and all relevant entities.

It indicated that the Kingdom is affected today, Monday, by a new, short-duration, and highly effective weather depression, accompanied by heavy rains, hail showers, and strong to severe winds in wide areas, with its effects starting from the morning hours, peaking from noon until evening, and subsiding during the late hours of Monday/Tuesday night.

The ministry clarified that since yesterday, about 95 complaints and notes were addressed, most of which focused on rising water levels in main and side streets, in addition to rock and mudslides due to flowing water volumes, leading to closure of some roads. Municipal staff and joint services councils addressed and resolved all observations.

The ministry noted that as a precautionary measure, several homes near the Mujib Dam were evacuated due to fears of dam water overflow after it filled up, where residents were relocated to designated shelters in cooperation with the administrative governor and civil defense, to ensure their safety.

The Local Administration Ministry urged citizens to exercise caution and vigilance, be aware of the intensity of rainfall, flowing torrents, rising water levels on roads, stay away from valleys and flood channels, and not to take risks or gamble, to protect lives and property.

It also warned of strong winds, urging the fixation or removal of metal sheets, canopies, and anything that could be blown away, and to fully comply with instructions and guidelines issued by the relevant authorities during the period of the weather depression, which is associated with severe winds that could exceed gusts of 90 km/h, with the possibility of dust storms on the eastern desert roads.

Yesterday, the ministry published an Early Warning Map and expects increased risk level (high risk) in the municipalities of the provinces of Irbid, Jerash, and Ajloun due to very heavy rains and a high likelihood of flash floods and valley flows.

In the afternoon hours, the rains will extend to the central regions at a moderate hazard level in the municipalities of the capital, Balqa, Madaba, Karak, and Tafilah, with the possibility of rising water levels at some locations.

According to the map during the night hours, heavy rains will concentrate on Karak and Tafilah, gradually subsiding and diminishing towards the dawn of Tuesday.

The Local Administration Ministry confirmed that it had circulated updated weather maps to the municipalities and the joint service councils, instructed to open emergency rooms, monitor critical sites on the ground, and enhance coordination with the relevant entities.
