Khaberni - approved the Cabinet in Oman Authority yesterday, on December 28, 2025, the policy of pre-announcing the scheduling of national and religious holidays annually at the beginning of each Gregorian year, except for the holidays of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, which will be announced in accordance with the announcement by the main committee for determining Hijri months.
The schedule for the holidays in 2026 will be as follows:
First: National events:
The Sultan's Accession Day on Thursday January 15, 2026
The National Day on Wednesday and Thursday November 25 and 26, 2026
Secondly: Religious events:
Isra and Mi'raj on Sunday January 18, 2026
Islamic New Year on Thursday June 18, 2026
Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday on Thursday August 27, 2026
It is worth mentioning that the royal decrees related to the determination of official holidays in the Sultanate of Oman have undergone a series of stages and changes since 1970 until today.
According to research by “Athir,” the most significant are as follows:
1- The first royal decree concerning the determination of official holidays was issued on 1972/05/29, wherein its first article stated: The official holidays for ministries, agencies, and public institutions shall be as follows:
– Islamic New Year on Muharram 1, one day– Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday on Rabi' al-Awwal 12, one day– Isra and Mi'raj on Rajab 27, one day– National Day on November 18 and 19, two days– Eid Al-Fitr from Shawwal 1 to 3, three days– Eve of Eid Al-Adha on Dhul Hijjah 9, one day– Eid Al-Adha from the tenth to the twelfth of Dhul Hijjah, three days.
2- Issuance of the royal decree No. 1972/28 on 1972/11/06 regarding the amendment of the royal decree issued on 1972/05/29 concerning official holidays.
Wherein, Article 1 thereof stated: All provisions regarding the holiday of Eid Al-Fitr, the Eve of Eid Al-Adha, and Eid Al-Adha itself are canceled and replaced with the following:
A- The holiday of Eid Al-Fitr starts from the last day of Ramadan and ends on the third day of Shawwal, lasting four days. B- The holiday of Eid Al-Adha starts from the eighth of Dhul Hijjah and ends on the twelfth of Dhul Hijjah, lasting five days. C- Friday is not counted within the holiday if it falls on any of these two holidays.
3- Royal Decree No. 91/56 regarding the determination of official holiday days, which allowed the modification of some official holiday dates on national occasions if it deemed necessary, and also allowed compensating for that by one day if any of the weekend days fall within the official holidays specified in the previous article.
