Khaberni - signed the UAE Agency for International Aid, a cooperation agreement with the Norwegian Refugee Council to provide aid to refugees in East Africa and enhance the humanitarian aid provided to people in conflicts and wars affected countries, supporting the communities hosting refugees in Ethiopia, Uganda, and other countries in the eastern part of the continent.

In the presence of Fatima Khamis Al Mazrouei, the country's ambassador to Norway, the agreement was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Agency for International Aid, and Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, with the UAE providing an $8 million grant to support humanitarian aid activities for refugees in host countries in Africa.

Alleviating Suffering

In this regard, Dr. Tarek Ahmed Al Ameri, President of the UAE Agency for International Aid, affirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting refugees forcibly displaced from their homes in East Africa due to ongoing wars and conflicts, which are among the worst humanitarian crises in the world. This agreement will contribute to alleviating the suffering of the affected, and ensuring the provision of necessary humanitarian support quickly and efficiently.

He pointed out the importance of this agreement in leveraging the operational expertise of the Norwegian Refugee Council to assist displaced refugees, providing essential services such as shelter, clean water, sanitation, education, as well as protecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.

Necessary Aid

For his part, Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, said: "We thank the UAE for this support, which will enable us to expand our noble humanitarian work, saving the lives of displaced refugee families in need of vital assistance in Ethiopia, Uganda, and other areas in East Africa. He added, "While global humanitarian funding faces many challenges that prevent millions of affected people from accessing humanitarian aid, the UAE's support represents a vital and important step to overcome such challenges.
