News reports indicate that 193 of the train's passengers are in stable condition, while 98 were injured, including 36 receiving treatment.
Khaberni - The Mexican authorities said on Sunday that at least 13 people were killed when a train connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans derailed in the southern state of Oaxaca.
The Mexican navy said the train was carrying 250 people, including 9 crew members and 241 passengers.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said that 5 of the injured are in critical condition.
The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the accident.
The train connecting the oceans, which was inaugurated in 2023 during the term of former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, is part of the broader Trans-Isthmic Corridor project.
This initiative aimed to modernize the railway line that connects the oceans across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, linking Salina Cruz port on the Pacific coast with Coatzacoalcos port on the Gulf of Mexico's coast.
