Khaberni - The leader of the Ansar Allah group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, warned on Sunday that any Israeli presence in Somaliland would be a "military target", in the latest condemnation of the Israeli movement to recognize the separatist region.
Al-Houthi said in a statement that the Houthis consider "any Israeli presence in Somaliland a military target for our armed forces, as it is an aggression against Somalia and Yemen, and a threat to the security of the region".
On Friday, Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland, which unilaterally declared its independence from Somalia in 1991.
Al-Houthi warned that this step has severe consequences, adding that "the Israeli enemy (...) aims to make Somaliland a foothold for hostile activities against Somalia, African countries, Yemen, and Arab countries, thus threatening the security of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden".
For decades, Somaliland has been seeking international recognition, and it holds a strategic location on the Gulf of Aden.
