Mahrez leads Algeria to the Round of 16 in the Africa Cup

Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot against Burkina Faso, leading his national team Algeria to the Round of 16 in the African Nations Cup 2025 on Sunday.

Algeria was awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute, which Mahrez, playing for Saudi's Al-Ahli, stepped up to take and successfully scored, bringing his total to 3 goals and leading the tournament's scorers after two rounds.

Luka Zidane, the Algerian goalkeeper, shined by blocking the shots from Burkinabe players under the watchful eyes of his father Zinedine Zidane, the French football legend who was present in the stands.

Algeria's win brings their total to 6 points, leading Group Five, whereas Burkina Faso remains at 3 points before their match against Sudan, who has the same number of points.
