Christmas Tragedies A Man Loses His Life over a Cake and Another Kills His Wife with Gunshots

Khaberni - In a tragic incident, a 47-year-old man died after choking on a piece of the traditional "Panettone" cake while having lunch with his family celebrating Christmas.

The incident occurred during a Christmas lunch at the victim's parents' house in the city of Settimo Torinese, in the Piedmont region in the north of the country, where Giovanni Lopez was eating a piece of the famous holiday cake before suddenly choking, according to the British newspaper "The Sun".

An attempt doomed to failure
Family members tried to save him immediately, and they hurried to call emergency services who arrived at the home, but the paramedics' efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and his death was declared at the scene.

Later medical examination confirmed that the cause of death was airway obstruction due to swallowing a piece of "Panettone" cake mixed with a piece of fresh tangerine, indicating that the death was accidental.

In a touching message posted on "Facebook", his brother Domenico bid farewell to the deceased with painful words, saying: "Giovanni, you will always be in our hearts, you were pure, generous, and kind, perhaps more than you should have been, always thinking of others and never thinking of yourself. I hope the Lord is merciful to you, and that you have moved on to a better life, I love you, my brother."

Incidents before Christmas
This tragedy came just a few days after another bloody incident in the United States just before Christmas, where a mother of three was killed and her 13-year-old daughter was seriously injured in a horrifying shooting inside the family's home in Florida.

The authorities confirmed that the husband, named Jason Kenny, 47, murdered his wife Crystal, then shot his daughter before later committing suicide. The crime occurred while watching a game in the National Football League (NFL).

According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the victim's 12-year-old son managed to flee to a nearby house and seek help, while the youngest child, aged one, was found asleep in her bed unharmed.

Investigations reported that an argument had broken out between the spouses after Crystal refused to let her husband continue watching the game inside the house, leading him to later go out to a nearby shed before returning to the home in the final moments of the game.

The police revealed that the wife had left a message urging her husband to seek help because of his addiction, which stated: "You are drinking and using cocaine again, this is not how our family life should be".

Upon the police's arrival at the scene, Crystal was found shot in the head, while her daughter was found with two gunshot wounds, one in the face and the other in the shoulder. The child was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

The child told the police: "I begged him not to shoot me, I said don't shoot, but he did."
