Khaberni - Al-Wehdat Club announced that its administrative body decided in a meeting on Saturday to form a specialized committee to review the statements issued by administrative body member Awad Al-Asmar, which included accusations of bribery and corruption, and directly offended the club, its management, its general body, and its fans – according to the club’s description.
The club’s spokesperson, Walid Al-Saudi, explained that the committee includes the club president, Yousef Al-Mukhtar, as chairman, the secretary, Walid Al-Saudi, and the board member Zaid Abu Hamid, to operate in direct coordination with the club’s legal committee, and according to the institutional and legal frameworks that Al-Wehdat has adhered to throughout its history.
The administrative body affirmed that Al-Wehdat Club, as a prestigious national sports institution, does not accept doubts about its integrity or damage to its reputation, emphasizing that any accusations that are not based on clear and documented evidence primarily harm the club and its values before they affect any other person or entity.
The body also expressed its displeasure about such statements being made on social media, away from official channels, and without presenting any supporting data or documents during the board meeting, which contradicts the spirit of collective responsibility and the requirements of institutional work.
The administrative body concluded by affirming that the investigative committee will present a comprehensive and transparent report upon completing its work, revealing the whole truth to Al-Wehdat Club fans, committed to the public's right to know, and preserving the club's foundational values, which it will remain loyal to, in word and deed, at all stages.
Awad Al-Asmar’s Statements:
Al-Asmar spoke on his Facebook account about the Abu Jamous and Samrin deal, accusing some parties of brokerage, especially the Wehdati group.
He noted that the Libyan club and the agent stopped responding, leading to the deal's cancellation.
He considered the cancellation of the deal beneficial for Al-Wehdat, both technically and financially in the future, with Abu Jamous in the national team.
Al-Asmar criticized the current management of the club, asserting that the decision is not in their hands, and said: “Our current management is controlled by the group only, they plan and unfortunately, Al-Mukhtar executes,” pointing out financial and administrative violations.
He added: “Selling players and contracting with players, distributing stand tickets, traveling and brokering, and settling debts at the whim of the president and financial director without presenting them to the administration, and I am responsible for my words.”
Al-Asmar also revealed serious violations in the junior categories, saying: “There is manipulation and bribery in the categories and receiving money from players’ parents, and the latest is selling a junior match by an amateur coach for the relegation of a club at the expense of another club because we lost the shield.”
Al-Asmar criticized the current situation of the club and its participations, adding: "We have become a club that attends and blesses the crowning of competitors, and in Asia, we travel just to congratulate the qualifiers."
Al-Asmar concluded his talk with an angry tone, recalling the saying of the late Izzat Hamza, saying: “I remember the words of the late Izzat Hamza when he spoke about the coming Tartars… and ever since they stopped tifos and entered the election line, Al-Wehdat was gone,”.
