Saudi Arabia Condemns Mutual Recognition between Israel and Somaliland

Khaberni - Saudi Arabia, on Friday night, rejected the mutual recognition between the Israeli occupation authorities and the Somaliland region "Somaliland".

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a declaration its full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, and expressed "its rejection of the mutual recognition announcement between the Israeli occupation authorities and the Somaliland region, considering it to perpetuate unilateral separatist actions that violate international law".

The statement added: "Saudi Arabia reaffirms its rejection of any attempts to impose parallel entities that conflict with the unity of Somalia, reaffirming its support for the legitimate state institutions of Somalia, and its commitment to preserving the stability of Somalia and its brotherly people".

A few hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel's recognition of Somaliland, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs wholly rejected this decision, threatening its sovereignty and territorial unity, and clarified that it would not allow the establishment of any foreign military bases or arrangements on its territory that could drag Somalia into proxy conflicts, or import hostile regional and international actions into this region.

"Somaliland" had declared its separation from Mogadishu in 1991, following the outbreak of the civil war, yet it has not received formal international recognition from any UN member state since then, and has been internationally treated as an autonomously governed region within the Federal Republic of Somalia.
