On Monday, the Kingdom will be affected by another low pressure centered over the island of Cyprus, where the weather will be cold and cloudy, with renewed rainfall in the north and center of the Kingdom and parts of the southwestern and eastern regions. The rains are expected to be heavy at times in the north and center of the Kingdom and may be accompanied by thunder, while the west winds are active in speed with occasionally strong gusts that may reach speeds of 50–60 km per hour, raising dust, especially in desert areas, as the intensity of the rainfall gradually weakens during the night hours.

Amman Municipality announces a moderate state of emergency to deal with the effects of the low pressure

Amman Municipality announced a moderate state of emergency from Saturday morning to deal with the effects of the low pressure affecting the Kingdom.

The municipality urged citizens to adhere to several preventive guidelines, notably securing building materials to prevent the closure of rainwater drainage lines, inspecting submersible pumps in the lower floors of buildings and commercial premises, and taking necessary measures to protect goods and stores from any water leakage.

It also emphasized the importance of staying away from low-lying areas and flood channels, not randomly discarding waste or debris to ensure the effectiveness of the rainwater drainage network, and not connecting rooftop gutters to the sewage networks to avoid their flooding.

The municipality stressed the importance of securing objects that could be blown away by the wind, such as zinc sheets and billboards, and staying away from sources of electricity in streets and public gardens.

The municipality called on citizens to follow the weather conditions and the warnings issued by the official government entities, noting that assistance in emergencies can be requested through Amman Municipality’s unified contact center.

The municipalities increase their readiness to deal with the low pressure

The Ministry of Local Administration reviewed reports from the Meteorological Department and the maps issued within the early warning system, which indicate that the Kingdom will be affected by a highly effective low pressure (third degree) starting from Saturday and continuing until Sunday.

The maps showed that thunderous heavy rains are expected on Saturday evening, with the possibility of floods and rising water levels in the municipalities of the provinces of Ajloun, Jerash, parts of Balqa, and north of Amman, as well as the municipalities of Madaba province, within the medium danger level (yellow color).

The forecasts added that the night of Saturday/Sunday will witness very heavy rains leading to floods and valley flows in the general municipalities of the provinces of Karak and Tafilah, at a high risk level (red), with indications of extremely heavy rains after midnight Saturday/Sunday until Sunday morning in some areas of the provinces, within a very high risk level (dark red), and its associated risks of sweeping floods and rockslides.

The ministry emphasized that it had disseminated the updated maps to municipalities and joint service councils, and directed to monitor critical sites on the field, open emergency rooms, and strengthen coordination with the relevant entities to ensure readiness and protect lives and properties, noting that the weather condition will gradually decline on Sunday and stabilize by evening.

The ministry urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid flood channels and valleys, and to adhere to the guidelines issued by the relevant authorities to ensure public safety.
