Khaberni - German police shot and killed a 33-year-old man during an incident at a university hospital in the city of Giessen in the center of the country on Friday, according to authorities.
The Hesse State Criminal Police Office stated in a statement that hospital staff had earlier contacted emergency services to report a patient threatening them with scissors.
The Criminal Police Office added that the responding officers encountered a man in a state of mental disturbance.
According to investigators, the man attacked the police officers with scissors, prompting them to shoot him, where he died from his injuries.
The office noted that the State Criminal Investigation Police have taken over the investigation for reasons related to neutrality, explaining that witnesses are being interrogated and evidence secured.
It was also mentioned in the context that specialists from the Firearms Forensic Unit are participating in the investigations.
The German authorities pointed out that the precise circumstances and sequence of events are still under investigation.
