Macrons Popularity at Its Lowest Since His Election in 2017

Khaberni  - French President Emmanuel Macron's popularity has decreased this December to its lowest level since his election in 2017, with only 25% of surveyed individuals expressing a positive opinion, according to a monthly survey released by a specialized institution today, Friday.

According to the survey conducted by "Toluna/Harris Interactive" for the private television channel "LCE", only 37% of the French people intend to watch the President's speech, traditionally broadcast on French TV on December 31 each year on the occasion of New Year's Eve.

Jean Daniel Levy, deputy director of the institute, noted in a statement that "with international tensions somewhat subsiding, the President is being evaluated more on domestic issues than in November, when his popularity had also reached one of its lowest levels."

This is evidence of the French people's "stringent" stance towards the head of state, with nearly two-thirds of the French (62%) saying they will not watch his traditional New Year’s Eve speech, compared to 37% who said they will watch it live. On the other hand, the proportion of people interested in following the speech was 40% a year ago and 43% two years ago.

The approval rate for Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu remained almost stable in December at 34%, while the popularity of all his ministers declined in the polls. The exception was the Minister of the Environment, who maintained an approval rating of 15%.

All political figures experienced a decrease in popularity at the end of the year. Jordan Bardella, leader of the National Rally (right), continues to lead the trust index (42%), barely ahead of the far-right leader Marine Le Pen (39%) followed by the leader of the Republicans (right) Bruno Retailleau (30%).
