The Director of Construction Supervision at the Greater Amman Municipality, Alaa Saaydeh, announced on Friday that there are 350 abandoned buildings in the capital, Amman.
Saaydeh stated that the Municipality has formed specialized committees to monitor and supervise the abandoned buildings within the 22 areas covered by the Greater Amman Municipality.
Saaydeh added that the abandoned buildings are those that have been left unused for long periods for various reasons, including financial, legal issues, or the emigration of their owners.
Saaydeh emphasized that abandoned buildings do not necessarily mean there are public safety issues, but they do pose various risks.
He explained that these risks are related to environmental, health, and social aspects, as well as public safety.
The abandoned buildings are concentrated in some of the old areas in Amman, such as Al-Madina, Basman, Al-Nasr, Ras Al-Ayn, Al-Yarmouk, and Al-Quweismeh.
