In a shocking incident on the Turkish streets, a three-month-old infant immediately died after her mother threw her out of their home's fourth-floor window in the town of Kayapınar in Diyarbakir, southeastern Turkey.
The woman, identified as N.A., threw her young daughter from a seven-story building on 477 Street in the Farad neighborhood.
Upon receiving a report of the incident, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary medical examinations revealed that the girl had died, and her body was transferred to the Diyarbakir morgue.
Police arrested N.A., who is alleged to suffer from psychological problems.
This incident has brought the issue of domestic violence in Turkey back into focus, where such events are recurrent.
Social media users have called for the protection of children and for imposing harsh penalties on those who commit violence against them.
In mid-November last year, the Turkish street was shocked by the discovery of a newborn girl in a trash can in Konya Province; a woman who threw her daughter in the street became the talk of social media in the country, which raised once again the issue of out-of-wedlock births.
Locals in the Kalvalar area of Maram district in Konya Province found a newborn girl after hearing her crying inside a trash can while passing by. They notified the security forces through the emergency center 112, and police came to the site and took the baby.
The police then transferred the baby to a hospital in Konya for medical examinations, which showed that the baby was in good health and stable.
The crime fighting teams in Maram also began extensive investigations to determine the identity of the mother, after gathering information from the neighborhood residents, leading to a 28-year-old foreign woman and a mother of five children who was living in one of the nearby houses.
