Will Sharia and Netanyahu Meet to Sign a Security Agreement

Khaberni - Israeli media, citing a Syrian source close to President Ahmad al-Shar'a, reported that the talks between Israel and Syria about a security agreement have made significant progress in recent weeks, with the possibility of it being signed soon.

The source told the Israeli "i24 News" channel, "This recent breakthrough is due to the significant efforts made by U.S. President Donald Trump," indicating that the agreement, which will include a diplomatic annex, is likely to be signed during a high-level Syrian-Israeli meeting in one of the European countries in the near future.

The Syrian source indicated that "it is not ruled out that it could be signed at a meeting between al-Shar'a and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."

It is worth noting that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibanee said last month that "Damascus expects to reach a security agreement with Israel, based on the 1974 ceasefire agreement, with some minor amendments, and without buffer zones, by the end of the year."
Israel rejects Syria's demand for an Israeli withdrawal from all the points that the army currently controls in Syria, following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Israeli sources say that the Israeli army will withdraw from some of the nine points it currently controls in Syrian territory, only in exchange for a "full peace agreement" with Syria, and not just a security agreement, according to "i24 News".
