Khaberni - Next year, Apple will allow the installation of external app stores on the "iOS" system in Brazil, following its loss in a case against the Brazilian antitrust authority, according to a report by Reuters.
This move comes after Apple made the same provision in Japan a few weeks ago and recently in Europe, where users in these regions can now use external app stores on their phones.
The decision of the Brazilian antitrust authority is not limited to just allowing external app stores, but also permits developers to use external payment services within the company's apps.
Furthermore, Apple will not be able to display harsh or severe warnings when attempting to use external app stores or payment services, and these alerts must be as neutral as possible.
For its part, the company has confirmed its intention to comply with the decisions of the Brazilian antitrust authority, noting that allowing these facilities exposes its users to the risk of cyber-attacks.
The report indicates that this case began in 2022 when the e-commerce platform "MercadoLibre," headquartered in Uruguay, filed a complaint against Apple.
The agreement between the antitrust authority and Apple will continue for three years starting from the next year, and the company must comply with these decisions within a period not exceeding 105 days, otherwise it will face increasing fines.
A separate report from the tech site "The Verge" notes that Apple collects a 5% fee on purchases made through external stores, compared to 25% of purchases made inside its store using its own payment interface.
