Khaberni - Israeli sources reported that the perpetrator, who was looking at the Palestinian after running him over as he lay on the ground and screaming at him, is a reserve soldier.
The Israeli military spokesperson stated in a declaration: "Earlier today, there were reports of an Israeli citizen firing a gun inside the village of Deir Jarir near Ramallah where it was initially determined that the talk concerned a reserve soldier who fired while wearing civilian clothes, blatantly violating his authority. There is an investigation into reports of injuries."
He added: "Shortly thereafter, footage showed an armed person running over a Palestinian, later identified as the same reserve soldier," noting that an investigation into the incidents is underway and the matter will be referred to the competent authorities based on their conclusions.
According to the spokesperson, "the weapon was confiscated from the soldier and his military duty was suspended following the severity of the events," expressing "the army's strongest condemnation of all forms of violence and demands its soldiers and leaders to act in accordance with the principles of the spirit of the Israeli Army."
This incident comes just two days after the Israeli police in the West Bank announced the arrest of five suspects in an "extreme violence incident" near As-Samu' in the southern Mount Hebron area, involving harm to animals and damage to Palestinian lands.
In a separate recent incident, clashes broke out between Palestinian shepherds and Israeli settlers who set up a farm on road 437 between Anatot and Novei Prat.
During the clashes, the settlers opened fire, resulting in three Palestinians suffering from serious and moderate injuries, while two other settlers were injured from being pelted with stones. The incident led to five injured people being transported to Israeli hospitals, and another injured person taken by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
These events occur in the context of escalating violence and provocations carried out by Israeli settlers, at times supported by military forces, against Palestinian civilians and their properties in the occupied West Bank, amidst an atmosphere of impunity.
