Governors and officials confirm Sanctions on random waste dumping will be strictly enforced

 Officials and academic figures from various provinces of the Kingdom confirm that the national executive program aimed at curbing the phenomenon of random waste dumping for the years 2026–2027, which was established within a comprehensive governmental framework through strict enforcement of the law on random waste disposal, lays the foundation for a sustainable plan to protect the environment and improve cleanliness, positively reflecting on general aesthetic appearance, health, and tourism.
Governor of Irbid, Radwan Al-Atoum, affirmed that the province is adopting an environmental strategy to ensure precise enforcement of the law against random waste disposal, explaining that the success of this initiative depends on the collaboration of all relevant entities and community institutions.
Al-Atoum mentioned that the province would continue its efforts with municipalities and environmental police to monitor violations, providing the necessary infrastructure such as containers and waste collection points, along with ongoing awareness campaigns to promote a culture of cleanliness, converting it into sustainable community behavior reflecting the quality of life in Irbid.
He added that the province also aims to create a comprehensive plan to protect forest and tourist areas, including increasing waste collection points and deploying regular environmental patrol teams, alongside active awareness campaigns for visitors, emphasizing the importance of preserving the environment, confirming that cooperation with the local community aims to make these sites models of environmental commitment.
Meanwhile, Governor of Ajloun, Nayef Al-Hadaiyat, said that administrative governance views the public cleanliness file as an ongoing priority rather than a seasonal task, noting that the governorate has implemented phased plans ensuring continuity of cleanliness campaigns and not just settling for temporary solutions.
Al-Hadaiyat explained that Ajloun's unique environmental characteristics, featuring forests and touristic and historical sites, require a workflow based on daily monitoring and continuous coordination with municipalities and relevant authorities, ensuring the preservation of a constant level of general cleanliness and curbing negative practices.
Governor of Jerash, Dr. Malik Kharaisat, stated that the province operates following an integrated approach, focusing on the continuity of cleanliness campaigns and not limiting them to seasons or events, indicating that addressing the phenomenon of random waste dumping requires long-term action that combines strict law enforcement and community awareness.
He noted that he has formed a committee chaired by him including the Joint Services Council, Jerash police, environmental protection, public works, municipalities, and the safety committee, along with the environmental office; to identify waste accumulation hotspots and reduce random dumping across all areas of the province, and the committee will commence a comprehensive field survey to identify locations witnessing waste accumulation and address them.
The Governor of Balqa, Faisal Al-Masaed, said that the environmental conservation and combating environmental violations file receives significant attention, pursuant to governmental directives emphasized by the economic modernization vision, and with constant confirmation of the necessity to pay diligent attention to this file due to its direct impact on public health, quality of life, and the country's urban landscape.
He indicated that the province, in coordination with regulatory bodies and concerned agencies, continues to intensify field tours and take legal actions against violators, applying environmental laws and regulations firmly, preserving natural resources and the scenic views that distinguish Jordan.
He added that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of official entities; it is a national and moral obligation that requires the concerted efforts of everyone, confirming that any assault on the environment is an assault on the next generations' right to a healthy and safe environment.
The governor called on citizens to fully comply with environmental laws and regulations, refraining from any practices that could harm the environment, urging the enhancement of environmental awareness culture and cooperation with specialized authorities by reporting any environmental violations, preserving the country's beauty and the sustainability of its natural resources.
Chairman of the Greater Mafraq Municipal Committee, Dr. Mohammad Al-Fayez, stated that the municipality has already started implementing the provisions of the waste management law, organizing this file in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Administration and the Ministry of Environment, to curb practices that have caused health nuisances and marred the urban landscape due to random waste and debris dumping.
He clarified that the municipality is working on selecting specific sites to distribute brochures and guidance boards to educate citizens about the law's provisions and the instructions to be issued later, in addition to activating the role of the health and environment department and the construction monitoring department to follow up on violations related to waste disposal and take legal actions against violators.
Governor of Madaba, Hassan Al-Jabour, stated that the province conducts continuous cleanliness campaigns in schools, squares, and parks in coordination with the directorates of education, the Joint Services Council, municipalities, and the community police, where more than 75 cleanliness campaigns were implemented over the past three months, which also serve an educational role in the importance of preserving and reducing random waste disposal.
Al-Jabour emphasized that regulatory authorities must impose penalties prescribed by the law against violators who dispose of waste from their vehicles and dispose of waste along roadsides and squares, causing significant damage to the city's aesthetics and giving a negative impression to visitors and tourists.
He mentioned that the current phase requires strict enforcement of the law, starting from awareness and guidance campaigns to imposing penalties against violators without leniency, ultimately establishing a general culture of maintaining cleanliness in homes, streets, and all public sites across the kingdom.
Chairman of the Rusaifa Municipal Committee, Engineer Hussam Al-Najdawi, mentioned that the municipality of Rusaifa has initiated a comprehensive campaign in this regard, in response to the economic modernization vision, where comprehensive awareness campaigns will include placing guidance boards in main areas and public roads, and distributing educational brochures in cooperation with the directorate of education and the endowments directorate, and in partnership with official entities and community and non-governmental organizations.
