Khaberni - A two-year-old girl met her tragic demise after being attacked by predatory piranha following her fall into a river in the Amazon state of northern Brazil.
According to "The Sun" newspaper, the girl, Clara Vitoria, had wandered away from her family's home near the river before she fell through an unsecured opening within a floating structure currently used as a site for future construction projects, including the building of a bathroom, without any fences or safety barriers.
The incident occurred on Monday, when her parents noticed her sudden disappearance and immediately started searching for her. About five minutes later, Clara was found in the water, where she was quickly retrieved, but she had already passed away.
Authorities confirmed that the girl showed no signs of life when she was pulled out of the river, and her death was declared at the scene. Initial examinations revealed that most of her injuries were concentrated in the neck area, and were found to be the result of an attack by the notoriously ferocious piranhas.
The child's body was moved to the forensic institute to proceed with legal formalities and criminal investigations, while the incident was officially recorded by the local police who opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident and identify potential shortcomings.
