Khaberni - The Ministry of Justice announced the implementation of 2143 alternative punishments to imprisonment since the beginning of this year until the end of November 2025.
This comes as part of the ministry's approach to implementing alternative sanctions, which aims to achieve restorative justice and reduce the negative effects of prison sentences.
The Director of the Community Sanctions Directorate at the Ministry of Justice, Eid Al-Warikat, stated previously that alternative punishments are applied in all misdemeanor cases, and in felony cases where the penalty does not exceed three years, provided there is reconciliation and dropping of personal rights in felony cases.
He emphasized that there is currently a trend to enforce alternative punishments collectively in a manner consistent with the legal text that requires performing work for public benefit purposes.
He considered these punishments deterrent and in line with the approach of modernizing restorative justice, which focuses on rehabilitating the convicted in cooperation with various relevant entities.
